In January of 2009, the TEACH Advisory Council met for the very first time - in a very 21st century way. While six members of the new advisory council gathered in a conference room in downtown Madison, six others participated remotely via video conference. In all, the Council has 13 members representing every type of TEACH customer including CESAs, libraries, public schools, private schools, private colleges and technical colleges.
The way in which the council met for the first time was in keeping with the overall goal of the new group:
To assist the Department of Administration, Division of Enterprise Technology, in modifying TEACH policy to better meet the needs of today's schools and libraries.
The group was brought together to review bandwidth use policy, and rate and financial management policies originally adopted by the TEACH Board, which was abolished in 2003. The advisory group is tasked with recommending changes that will result in the use of TEACH funding to the fullest extent possible while balancing the sometimes competing needs of all school and library customers.
